Lokomotiv Plovdiv almost caused the upset of the UEFA Cup First Round last night. With ten minutes to go of the second leg they were on their way to a memorable win against Bolton, but the English Premier League high-flyers struck back with two goals to book their place in the next round.
The odds were stacked against the Bulgarian side which had to play both legs without their top goalscorer, Martin Kamburov, due to a red card received in the previous round. They also had to deal with the shocking loss of their president.
Desite this, Lokomotiv produced a brave performance at the Reebok Stadium and in the return leg in Bulgaria to give Sam Allardyce’s men a real scare with a place in the lucrative group-stage at stake.
