Dalibor Stevanovic is celebrating winning the Polish League title with Slask Wroclaw. The Slovenian international signed with the new Polish Champions during the January transfer window and has been involved in an edge-of the-seat race for the title in the Polish Ektraklasa league which was decided on the last day of the season.
Prior to kick-off, four teams had hopes of claiming the title. Slask secured only their second ever title the hard way. Orest Lenczyk’s team only usurped Legia at the summit on the penultimate matchday, and even then still had to win at title holders Wisla in their last game of the campaign. The chasing trio still believed, though, and Ruch were in pole position when they raced into a 2-0 lead against KS Lechia Gdańsk. But Slask did what they needed in Krakow thanks to Rok Elsner’s second-half strike and finished a point clear at the head of the standings.
This is Slask’s first title win for 34 years – a very satisfying achievement for Dalibor Stevanovic after just 4 months with the club. He can now look forward to Champions’ League football next season.
