After an absence from the Bulgarian National Team of over 2 years, Georgi Peev has been recalled for the friendly game against Wales, at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Tuesday, 15 August 2006.
Despite his young age and the long absence, Peev has accumulated 41 caps for the National Team. His last game was the 2-0 loss against Denmark in Portugal for EURO 2004. Peev now has the opportunity to re-establish himself in the team for the upcoming EURO 2008 qualifying campaign.
Bulgaria were drawn in arguably one of the strongest qualifying groups which includes the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Albania, Belarus and Luxembourg. Head Coach, Hristo Stoichkov, will be looking to put together a squad capable of reaching the finals in Austria and Switzerland in 2008 and Peev is a player with pedigree and a proven ability at club and international level, including four seasons in the UEFA Champions’ League.
